MACON, Ga. – Mercer forward Will Bagrou has been named the Southern Conference men's soccer player of the week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday
Bagrou posted six points on two goals and two assists to help the Bears to a 2-0 week as Mercer strengthened its hold on the top spot in the SoCon standings.
The freshman from Dacula, Ga., got his week started by scoring Mercer's first two goals in a 3-2 win over UNCG on Oct. 7. Bagrou scored in the 12th minute to tie the game at 1 and then again in the 42nd to give the Bears a 2-1 halftime lead.
Bagrou followed that up with two assists in Mercer's 3-0 win over No. 24 Furman on Saturday. With the game scoreless in the late stages, Bagrou found Carson Brooks twice in a span of 10:05 to help the Bears to the upset. Bagrou set up the game-winner in the 73rd minute and assisted on an insurance goal in the 83rd that made the score 3-0.
For the season, Bagrou is ranked in the SoCon in three categories – No. 4 in points (13), No. 3 in goals (5) and No. 5 in assists (3).
Mercer (8-4-0, 4-0-0 SoCon) will take on second-place Wofford (7-4-0, 3-1-0 SoCon) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
