
Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mercer men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Wofford on Wednesday evening at Snyder Field.
The loss marked the Bears' first in Southern Conference play as they moved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the SoCon. Wofford improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. Mercer and Wofford are now tied for first in the SoCon.
After a scoreless first half, the Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute when Nestor Jaramillo scored off a free kick from 20 yards out.
Mercer evened the score, 1-1, in the 65th minute after Carson Brooks knocked the ball in after it was deflected in the box following a corner kick.
Less than a minute later, the Bears had a chance to go up when they won a penalty kick, but Jordan Duru's shot was saved by the Terriers' goalie.
Wofford regained its advantage, 2-1, with less than four minutes left in the game when Charlie Keeley scored from just a few yards out. Mercer was unable to score again in the final minutes to send the game to overtime.
Wofford outshot Mercer, 21-15, but the Bears led in corner kicks, 7-4. In goal, Greg Ranjitsingh tied his season high of seven saves.
Next up, Mercer travels to Greensboro, N.C., to face UNCG on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The Bears will return home on Tuesday, Oct. 21 to face Wofford at 7 p.m.
