
Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision To Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mercer men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Furman on Tuesday evening at Stone Soccer Stadium.
The Bears moved to 11-6 on the season and 7-2 in Southern Conference play, while the Paladins improved to 9-4-3 overall and 5-3-1 in league action. Mercer remained in first place in the conference standings.
Mercer took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when Will Bagrou knocked the ball into the net after a scramble in front of the goal. Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half.
Furman knotted the score, 1-1, in the 53rd minute when Lewis Hawke found the back of the net, assisted by Marco Ortiz. The Paladins took the lead, 2-1, in the 83rd minute off a penalty kick from Kevin Pahl.
Mercer had a couple of chances in the final minutes, but was unable to tie the score and send the match to overtime.
The Paladins outshot the Bears, 12-6, and won the corner kick count, 5-1. In goal, Greg Ranjitsingh made two saves.
Mercer will conclude regular season play in the Southern Conference on Saturday, Nov. 1 when it hosts ETSU. The Bears will honor their two seniors in a short ceremony prior to the start of the game.
