
Men's Cross Country Takes Eighth at SoCon Championship

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – The Mercer men's cross country team posted a team average time of 26:41.84 in the 8k Southern Conference Championship on Friday morning, earning 212 points for an eighth place finish in the team standings.
Mercer's 212 points bested Wofford (234 points) and The Citadel (283 points) in the final results. Furman claimed the top seven individual spots and won the league title with perfect score of 15 points.
East Tennessee State took second place with 71 points, while VMI (92 points), Samford (108 points) and Chattanooga (148 points) comprised the top five.
Junior Victori Kosgei registered Mercer's top finish, clocking a 26:09.39 to place 32nd in the 80-runner field. Senior Davis Trexler was three spots behind Kosgei, turning in a 26:16.31.
Senior Austin Pfeifer completed the course in 26:27.46 to place 40th. Senior Jeff Law crossed the line at 27:13.45 for 51st place.
Freshman Andrew Anastasiades booked a 27:37.26 and placed 54th. Freshman Nicholas Ashmead was next best, taking 59th at 27:37.26 while freshman Ross Porter finished in 27:44.28 and took 61st.
Mercer continues the 2014 fall season at the NCAA Regional in Tallahassee, Florida on Nov. 14th.
