Men's Golf Leads Field at Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSE, Fla. - The Mercer men's golf team got off to a strong start at the Seminole Intercollegiate on Friday, posting a team score of 282 to finish day one in first place at the Southwood Golf Course. Junior Trey Rule leads all individuals with an opening round 3-under 69, while senior Hans Reimers is tied for second after shooting 2-under 70.
Mercer's 282 was six strokes under par and positions the Bears five shots ahead of James Madison on the leaderboard. South Florida (289), Florida State (290) and North Carolina (293) round out the top five.
After bogeying his third hole of the day, Rule buckled down and notched five birdies in his final 15 holes to close his day one efforts. Rule birdied the first three holes of the back nine and will begin Saturday's second round with an outright lead on the field.
Reimers was steady throughout Friday's play, carding three birdies on the front nine and finishing with 14 pars. Reimers is currently part of a four-way tie for second place individually.
Senior James Beale shot 1-under 71 on Friday and is tied for sixth place overall while freshman Sean Smothers registered an even-par 72 and is tied for 10th place. Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis is tied for 19th place after using 73 strokes Friday.
The second round of action is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
