MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team ended a three-match losing streak with a resounding 6-1 road win over Jacksonville State on Tuesday afternoon at the JSU Tennis Courts.
"Today was a great total team win," assistant coach Tim McLane said. "We were able to come out with great intensity and get the doubles point and then were able to keep our energy level up throughout singles play. I'm really proud of the way we competed today."
Mercer got off to a great start by taking the doubles point after both teams split a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles, sophomore Arsav and Arnav Mohanty staked the Bears to an early 1-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
From there it would be all Mercer as sophomore Oliver Snaider and freshman Manuel De Luis captured easy straight-set wins at No. 1 singles and No. 5 singles to put Mercer ahead 3-0.
With the score 3-1, Arnav Mohanty clinched the match for the Bears with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 win over Jacksonville State's Jaryd Reese at No. 2 singles.
Mercer is back in action on March 5 when it travels to North Carolina take on UNC-Charlotte.
