Mercer Drops 4-3 Decision to Lipscomb in A-Sun Opener

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Lipscomb in its Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Friday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Mercer drops to 4-12 overall while Lipscomb improves to 3-6 with the win.

"Today was a really tough loss for us to take," assistant coach Tim McLane said. "We got off to a great start winning doubles and getting quick singles wins from Oliver and Joao. Everyone fought their tails off, but we just couldn't finish the match when we had other guys on the ropes."

Mercer started the match on a positive note, using wins at No. 2 doubles by sophomores Arsav and Arnav Mohanty and No. 3 doubles by sophomore Anderson Scarpa and Joao Pagan to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

Lipscomb dominated in singles play, however, receiving wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to solidify the comeback win.

Sophomore Oliver Snaider won his match at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Pagan captured a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles for the Bears two points in singles play.

Mercer stays at home in Atlantic Sun Conference play next time out against Northern Kentucky on March 15 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
