Mercer Notches Signature 4-3 Win over No. 71 North Florida

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team made its last home match of the 2014 season one to remember following a 4-3 win over No. 71 North Florida on Saturday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Mercer (9-14, 3-3 A-Sun) notched both its first win over a ranked team and its first win over North Florida going as far back as the 2008 season.

"Both teams played incredibly hard and very well today, but we were lucky in that Manuel de Luis was able to step for the second-straight match to deliver the deciding match point for us," assistant coach Tim McLane said. "We are so proud of the way our guys fought today and hopefully we can keep things rolling the rest of the season."

Mercer once again started the match by winning the doubles point, using wins at No. 2 doubles by sophomores Arsav and Arnav Mohanty and No. 3 doubles by sophomore Anderson Scarpa and senior Joao Pagan to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the match following sophomore Oliver Snaider's 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.

Finding themselves down 3-2 late in the match, Mercer rallied using a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles by Arsav Mohanty and a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles by De Luis to pull out the 4-3 match win.

Mercer returns to Atlantic Sun Conference play on April 11 when it hits the road to take on USC Upstate.
