
Men's Soccer Falls On Road to South Carolina, 2-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Mercer men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to South Carolina on Sunday evening at Stone Stadium.
The Bears' (2-2) offensive efforts were led by Jourdan Gooden and Will Jones, both of whom recorded two shots and a shot on goal. In all, Mercer fired off eight shots during the match, while South Carolina tallied 17 shots. The Bears applied pressure throughout the match, but were unable to find any significant chances to score.
Between the pipes, Greg Ranjitsingh notched four saves.
South Carolina (3-0) scored its first goal in the 28th minute off a penalty kick by Mahamoudou Kaba. The Gamecocks increased their lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute when Kurtis Turner found the back of the night from 30 yards out.
A perennial Conference USA powerhouse, South Carolina is ranked No. 27 by Top Drawer Soccer and Kaba is ranked in the top 100 nationally.
Next up, Mercer will face UNC Asheville on Friday, Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga., as part of the Georgia Southern Tournament. The Bears will also play a tournament game on Sunday, Sept. 14 against Florida Atlantic at 11 a.m.
