THE FIELD
Mercer joins a 14-team field that is highlighted by a pair of program ranked among the Top 50 in the latest Golfweek rankings, South Florida (No. 19) and College of Charleston (No. 37). The Bears will also compete against Chattanooga, Davidson, Francis Marion, Georgia State, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee State, Richmond, South Alabama, Temple and UNCG.
COACH KAYDEN'S TAKE
"We had a good practice round this afternoon," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "It is nice knowing that four of the six guys with us this week have played the course in the past, especially in terms of a preparation standpoint. It is an A-to-B course, so we have a chance to set ourselves up for a lot of birdie opportunities."
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears will be back in action following a three-week break after finishing 11th at the Inverness Intercollegiate in September. Dylan Deogun and Heinicka led the way for Mercer, tying for 21st place with a three-round total of 224.
MERCER STORYLINES
- Mercer finished sixth at last season's rain-shortened AutoTrader Collegiate classic, behind Top-10 finishes from Smothers and Emmanuel Kountakis.
- Connelly will be making his first appearance in the Bears' lineup this season, while freshman Schorr, who is playing as an individual, is set to make his collegiate debut Monday.
- Mercer heads into the tournament ranked second in the league with a 291.67 stroke average. The Bears are just one of three Southern Conference programs ranked inside the Golfweek Top-100.
