
Men's Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Win Over VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Mercer University men's soccer team tallied a 2-1 victory over VMI on Tuesday afternoon at Patchin Field.
TURNING POINT
Kobe Perez scored Mercer's first goal of the game in the 7th minute after receiving a cross from Will Bagrou and firing a shot off from eight yards out from the goal. Bagrou added a second goal for the Bears in the 83rd minute after receiving a pass from Alexander Andersson and dribbling through a pair of defenders before aiming for the lower left corner of the goal. Bagrou's shot went past one VMI defender before the goalkeeper dove and failed to stop the ball as it went into the net. The Keydets scored a goal in the 84th minute, but Mercer held on to the lead for a 2-1 win.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Will Bagrou scored a goal and dished out an assist as he helped the Bears improve to 3-2 in SoCon play. Bagrou also registered a team-leading six shots on the afternoon.
STAT OF THE GAME
Mercer led VMI in shots, 21-13, as well as shots on goal, 9-5.
NOTABLES
- Kobe Perez scored his second goal of the season when he gave the Bears an early lead. Perez registered three shots, including two on goal, for the day.
- Will Bagrou notched his fourth goal and third assist on the year, and also tallied his second game-winning goal of the season.
- Alexander Andersson dished out his first assist of the season when he sent a pass to Bagrou late in the second half. Andersson also had four shots, including two on goal, during the match.
- Jeremy Booth recorded four saves on the afternoon, and he allowed just one goal from the Keydets.
- Mercer also led in corner kicks, 8-4, including a 7-2 margin in the second stanza.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer improves to 8-5 on the season and 3-2 in conference action, while VMI moves to 0-13 overall and 0-5 in league play.
