
Men's Soccer Edged By Furman in Double Overtime

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Furman in double overtime on Tuesday night at Bear Field.
TURNING POINT
The game was fairly even during regulation, as each team took five shots in the first half and four shots in the second half. The Paladins had a pair of shots in the first overtime, including a penalty kick attempt, but the score remained 0-0 and the match went into a second overtime. Furman scored the golden goal to end the game in the 102nd minute off a penalty kick from Tony Santibanez.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Will Bagrou had two shots for Mercer, including one on goal. Bagrou's chance came in the eighth minute from just a couple of yards out, but the Furman keeper slid in and knocked it away. Bagrou had a second shot a few seconds later that was blocked by a Paladin defender almost immediately after Bagrou connected with the ball.
STAT OF THE GAME
The shots were even after regulation, 9-9, but Furman led, 3-0, in shots during overtime play.
NOTABLES
- Conner Antley, Will Bagrou, Emmet Johnson and Trenton Whitely all notched two shots for Mercer on the night. Alexander Andersson registered Mercer's ninth shot.
- Jeremy Booth made two saves, including a diving save in the first overtime on a Furman penalty kick attempt.
- Mercer led in corner kicks, 4-3.
- All three of Mercer's SoCon games this season have gone to overtime, but none have resulted in a tie. Mercer has not tied a game since Oct. 17, 2013, when it played FGCU to a 0-0 draw.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer moves to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in SoCon play, while Furman improves to 4-3-2 on the season and 3-0 in league action.

Mercer will hit the road and face ETSU on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Johnson City, Tenn.
