Mercer Opens Week at Wofford
10/17/2016 6:19:00 PM | Men's Soccer
MACON, Ga. – Another year, another season of Mercer being in the thick of the Southern Conference men's soccer regular season title race. Despite faltering late in a 2-1 defeat at UNCG on Saturday and dropping into a tie for second place, the Bears remain in prime position to make a run for the top of the standings during the remaining two-week stretch of league play.
That stretch begins with a road trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 18 to take on Wofford (8-5-0, 3-3-0). The match begins at 7 p.m. and will be played at Snyder Field. Mercer (9-5-0, 4-2-0) has already defeated the Terriers this season in a 2-0 clean sheet at Bear Field on Sept. 27.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer enters the 10th all-time match against Wofford with a 6-2-1 mark in the series and is unbeaten (3-0-1) in the last four meetings. Will Bagrou (1') and Conner Antley (19') found the net quickly in the teams' match earlier this season and the Bears never looked back, as their defense allowed only one shot by the Terriers.
NOTABLES
The Terriers responded well to their SoCon-opening at Mercer on Sept. 27 and tailed off three straight league victories over VMI, current conference leader ETSU and Furman. However, Wofford enters Tuesday with a two-match skid at the hands of UNCG and ETSU. Both matches ended in 2-1 defeats for the Terriers.
The two goals in those losses aren't the norm for Wofford, which is tied for the conference lead in goals scored (25) and ranks first with an average of 1.92 goals per match. Matthew Aurendnik and Lucas Altman lead their squad with five and three goals, respectively.
