Bears Host Mocs In SoCon Quarterfinals

MACON, Ga. – Mercer begins play in the Southern Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon as the women's soccer team hosts Chattanooga for a quarterfinal match at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Katelyn Dimopoulos netted a goal in the first half of the match against The Citadel as Mercer took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute. The Bears held on to the advantage for more than 83 minutes as Mercer wrapped up the regular season with a 1-0 win to clinch the No. 3 seed in the SoCon Tournament.
SERIES HISTORY
Chattanooga holds a 4-2 advantage in the series, with both of Mercer's wins coming in SoCon play. Chattanooga edged Mercer, 2-1, in overtime during the regular season this year.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
After starting SoCon play with a 3-1 record, a program best since 2004, Chattanooga went 1-3-1 in its final conference games. The Mocs went 1-6-1 on the road this season, including a 1-3 mark in SoCon games.
Peyton McCollum leads Chattanooga with 13 points off a team-leading five assists and four goals. Ellie Myrick has tallied a team-high five goals and added two assists for a total of 12 points. McKenzie Gregg has also dished out a team-high five assists and Jordan Mueller has added four goals of her own.
Melia Correa has spent a majority of time in goal for the Mocs, making 57 saves and allowing 21 goals. Correa has recorded a .731 save percentage and a 1.69 goals-against average. Katie Emig has also spent a significant amount of time between the posts for Chattanooga. Emig has made 24 saves and allowed five goals for a .828 save percentage and a 0.83 GAA.
MERCER NOTES
Mercer has advanced to the SoCon Tournament championship match in each of the last two seasons. The Bears were also the No. 3 seed in 2014, when they won the tournament and advanced to the NCAA for just the second time in program history.
Maddie Clark continues to lead the Bears with 12 goals and 26 points this season. The redshirt senior is third in the league in both total goals and total points, while sitting at 20th and 36th nationally, respectively. She has also notched five game-winning goals, ranking her second in the SoCon and 14th nationally.
Logan Culver is second on the team with four goals and eight points, while Abbey Reddig and Valeria Bermeo have each netted a pair of goals this season. Caroline Smith has tallied a team-leading three assists, while Emma Chandlee, Clark, Haley McDuffee and Jamilah Tejan have all added a pair of assists.
Cristina Mursuli has spent nearly 1400 minutes in goal this season for the Bears. She has made 65 saves and allowed 20 goals for a .765 save percentage and 1.31 GAA. The senior netminder also tallied four complete game shutouts in conference play.
In the five of its last six matches, Mercer scored all of its goals after halftime and the Bears outscored opponents 11-0 in the second half or overtime periods in those matches. Mercer found the back of the net in the first half for the first time since Oct. 2 when Dimopoulos scored against The Citadel last week.
