Series History
Former conference mates in the A-Sun from 2006-2014, Mercer leads the all-time series, 14-6. A closely contested series, 13 of the 20 meetings have been decided by 10 points with seven of those ending as one-possession games (two went to overtime). The Bears have won the last five meetings.
Scouting Kennesaw State
Prior to Christmas break the Owls snapped a four-game slide wtih a 68-60 win over North Carolina A&T to claim head coach Al Skinner's 400th career win. That victory brought Kennesaw State to 4-9 on the season.
Last Time Out
Jordan Strawberry led all scorers with a career-high 31 points, Ria'n Holland added a career-high 27 points, but Mercer fell prey to another heartbreaking loss Thursday night. This time it came at the hand of La Salle in three overtimes in a 98-96 decision in front of 3,272 at Hawkins Arena.
Mercer (5-7) dropped its second consecutive one-possession loss and third of the year in its first triple-overtime game in two years.
Sponsorship with Rolaids coming?
Because Mercer fans might need one. Mercer has already played in four one-possession games this season (with a 1-3 record) and suffered back-to-back heartbreaking losses. The first came at Auburn as the Tigers hit an off-balance fadeaway buzzer-beater for the win. Then, four days later, La Salle edged Mercer in triple overtime. That follows a two-point loss to Akron from the Savannah Invitational.
Top 25 Schedule - Does It Get Any Easier?
Bob Hoffman claimed before the season started that this might be Mercer's toughest schedule yet in his nine years in Macon. He might be right. Mercer's strength of schedule currently ranks 18th in the nation. Bears opponents have accumulated a record of 67-36 so far this season, a .650 winning clip.
