Series History
Mercer and Oglethorpe will meet for the 46th time on Wednesday when the two former Dixie Conference rivals meet once again on the hardwood. Mercer leads the (known) all-time series, 32-13, and this will mark the third time a Bob Hoffman-coached team will face the Stormy Petrels.
A member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Athletic Association, Oglethorpe enters this week with a record of 3-4. The Stormy Petrels will play at Covenant on Tuesday evening before making their way to Macon to face Mercer on Wednesday.
Taking Care
Early this season Mercer is one of the better teams in the nation in taking care of the ball. Entering this week's games, the Bears are ranked 29th nationally and first in the Southern Conference in turnovers per game. Mercer is only giving away the ball at a rate of 11.3 per game, one of the best marks in the nation.
Does It Get Any Easier?
Bob Hoffman claimed before the season started that this might be Mercer's toughest schedule yet in his nine years in Macon. He might be right. Mercer's strength of schedule currently ranks 27th in the nation (tied with Purdue). Bears opponents have accumulated a record of 30-16 so far this season, a .652 winning clip ranking 27th nationally and first in the Southern Conference.
