
Women's Lacrosse Falls to Richmond in Season Opener

RICHMOND, Va. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Richmond, 16-2, on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Richmond scored the first goal of the game, but Lindsey Zeltwanger answered for Mercer just two minutes later to knot the score, 1-1. The Spiders added four unanswered goals before Kate Leone added another Bear goal to put the score at 5-2 with 14:46 to play in the half. Richmond scored another four goals in the first half to take a 9-2 lead at halftime. The Spiders outscored the Bears, 7-0, in the second half and won the game, 16-2.
NOTABLES
- Kate Leone recorded a goal and tallied a career-high-tying two ground balls.
- Lindsey Zeltwanger also scored a goal for Mercer and added two ground balls.
- Haleigh Wurzel notched a career-high 24 saves for the Bears, while also registering two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Taylor Horner contributed two ground balls and a career-high-tying one caused turnover, while Anna Schneeberger grabbed a career-high two ground balls.
- Audrey Robertson notched a career-high three ground balls for the Orange and Black and Meghan Segreti grabbed a pair of draw controls.
- Tori Blakeman tallied a career-high-tying two caused turnovers and picked up a ground ball, while Audrey Allen grabbed a draw control.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer starts the season at 0-1, while Richmond improves to 1-0 on the year.
UP NEXT
Mercer will return to Macon for a three-game home stand, starting with Siena on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 p.m. at Five Star Stadium.
