
Bears Roll To 19-2 Win Over Presbyterian

Mercer had 10 different goal scorers
MACON, Ga. - Following a two and a half hour lightning delay, Mercer saw 10 different players find the back of the net as the Bears rolled to a 19-2 win over Presbyterian Wednesday night from Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia.
Presbyterian scored the first and last goals of the game. In between that, were 19 unanswered goals from the Bears who overcame the lightning delay and a slow start to move to 2-0 in conference play.
Shots in the game were 41-12, Mercer, and shots on goal were 25-9, Bears. Ayla Galloway was once again outstanding in the draw circle for the Bears. Galloway won 16 draws which tied the single-game program record as Mercer won 17 draw controls to just five for Presbyterian.
Both teams had trouble taking care of the ball, as Presbyterian had 19 turnovers and Mercer, 16.
It was a well balanced attack for the Bears with 10 different players scoring a goal. Caroline Glus and Maya Maldonado led the way with four goals each. Glus also had two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Gabby Brisbin had a 6-point game (3G, 3A) which tied her career high when she also had six points in Mercer's win over Arizona State.
Defensively, Fiona Tanis led Mercer with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. As a team Mercer had 13 caused turnovers which tied its season high. Mackenzie Ward made six saves and allowed just one goal to finish with a season high 85.7% save percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer got off to a slow start offensively after the two and a half hour lightning delay. It took Mercer more than 11 minutes to finally score its first goal of the game when Gabby Brisbin found Sofia D'Angelo for the goal to tie the game at one. Josie Parret scored Mercer's second goal and the Bears led 2-1 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was much better for the Bears who scored eight goals in the period. Maldonado scored three of her four goals in the quarter and Gracie Ochoa scored her second career goal as well, as Mercer led 10-1 at halftime.
Brisbin scored her third goal of the game early in the third quarter to give Mercer an 11-1 lead. Abbi Rupnow scored her first goal of the game and Glus scored her third goal of the game with less than one minute to go in the third quarter as Mercer took a 14-1 lead into the fourth quarter.
Reaghan Lomascola and Ansley Walters scored their first goals of the game to give Mercer a 17-1 lead. Brooke Jones was Mercer's 10th different goal scorer of the game when she scored her second career goal and Mercer's 19th goal of the game as Mercer finished out a 19-2 win.

Mercer visits Furman next Wednesday, April 8. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start inside Paladin Stadium.
