
Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Siena

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team fell to Siena, 17-7, on Tuesday afternoon in the Bears' home opener. Lindsey Zeltwanger led Mercer with three points off two goals and one assist. Meghan Segreti also netted a career-high-tying two goals for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Siena started the game hot, surging to a 7-0 lead with 16:12 remaining in the first half. Meghan Segreti found the back of the net with 14:58 left in the half, sparking a 5-1 Mercer run to close out the half and cut Siena's lead to 8-5 at halftime.
Siena scored the first goal of the second half, but Meghan Segreti answered just over a minute later for the Bears, moving the score to 9-6. The Saints scored a pair of goals before Kate Christian notched a goal to slow Siena down and put the score at 11-7. Siena's offense closed the game much like it began, scoring six unanswered goals and stretching the Saints' lead to 17-7 with 6:51 on the clock, an advantage that Siena held on to for the remainder of play.

- Lindsey Zeltwanger tallied season highs of two goals, one assist and three points in addition to a ground ball.
- Meghan Segreti scored a career-high-tying two goals for a season-high two points. She also had a season-high two ground balls and a draw control.

- Nawal Alami recorded career-highs of one goal, three draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Kate Christian also scored a goal for the Bears.

- Gabby Goldberg tallied a career-high two caused turnovers and Kelly Hagerty had a career-high two ground balls.
- Audrey Robertson caused a turnover, while Victoria Ferdinandi and Kendall Garrett each grabbed a ground ball.
- Audrey Allen had season-highs of two draw controls and a ground ball, while Taylor Horner grabbed a ground ball and a career-high-tying draw control and Katie Brueske notched ground ball.
- Haleigh Wurzel played a majority of the game in goal for the Bears, recording 13 saves and allowing 15 goals.
- Michele Holmes tallied two saves and allowed two goals while in goal for Mercer.
- Mercer tallied 23 ground balls, while Siena grabbed 24.
- The Bears won the turnover battle, 11-13, and caused five turnovers compared to just one caused turnover from the Saints.
- Siena edged Mercer in draw controls, 15-11.
