Women's Golf Finishes Tied for 10th at 3M Augusta Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Mercer University women's golf team played the final two rounds of the 3M Augusta Invitational on Saturday, finishing the invite tied for 10th at the Forest Hills Golf Club.

THE BEARS IN THE TEAM STANDINGS
Mercer's final score of 901 (38-over) placed the team in a tie for 10th with Virginia Tech in a deep 3M Augusta Invitational field. The Bears finished 15 shots from the Top 5, as Augusta claimed the title while Coastal Carolina and Furman rounded out the top three.
MERCER SPOTLIGHT
Schanen shot a 2-under 70 in round two followed by a 4-over 76 in the third and final round to lead the Orange and Black on Saturday. Schanen finished the invite with a 222 (+6) to finish in a tie for 21st place.
MERCER NOTABLES
- After totaling seven birdies in the opening round, the Bears put together 16 in the second round of action. The Orange and Black added nine more birdies in the final round for a tournament total of 32. Schanen led the team with nine birdies on the weekend, while Deems and Janiga added eight and seven respectively.
- Mercer's round of 287 is the team's best this season and the top mark since carding a 285 in the opening round of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate during the 2013-14 campaign. The Bears have now had a score of 300 or better in five of their last eight rounds.
- Schanen and Janiga ranked among the top seven individuals in the tournament on Par-5 holes, as Schanen finished 4-under on those opportunities while Janiga was closed behind with a 3-under tally.
- Schanen's 2-under 70 was her seventh round of par or better this season. Four of those rounds have come this spring.
