
Women's Lacrosse Falls To Old Dominion, 16-4

NORFOLK, Va. – The Mercer University women's lacrosse team fell to Old Dominion, 16-4, on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears struck first when Erica Coyne dished the ball to Meghan Segreti, who put Mercer up 1-0 just 2:06 into the game. Old Dominion answered with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 12:24 left in the first half. Mercer found the back of the net again when Lindsey Zeltwanger scored with 10:17 on the clock, moving the score to 4-2. The Monarchs scored another four goals in the first half to take an 8-2 lead at intermission.
Old Dominion opened the second half with a pair of goals and Erica Coyne scored for Mercer on a man-up opportunity to make it 10-3 with 21:30 to play. The Monarchs scored another four unanswered goals to increase their lead to 14-3 and Kate Christian interrupted ODU's momentum with a goal with 7:14 left in the game. Another pair of goals from Old Dominion moved the final score to 16-4.
NOTABLES
- Kate Christian notched a goal and an assist for a team-high-tying two points. She also had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Erica Coyne also had two points off a goal and an assist to go along with two draw controls and a ground ball.
- Meghan Segreti scored a goal for Mercer and grabbed a team-high three draw controls.
- Lindsey Zeltwanger rounded out the scoring for Mercer with a goal. She also tallied a ground ball and a draw control.
- Tori Blakeman registered a team-high-tying three ground balls and a draw control, and Kelly Hagerty had a ground ball.
- Katie Brueske added two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Victoria Ferdinandi tallied a caused turnover.
- Haleigh Wurzel made 17 saves and grabbed a ground ball.
- Old Dominion outshot Mercer, 45-13, and won in ground balls, 24-12. The Monarchs also won the draw control battle, 15-7.
RECORDS UPDATE
Mercer moves to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic Sun play, while Old Dominion is now 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in league games.
