SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday's matchup will be the ninth meeting between the Bears and Gamecocks on the pitch. Mercer has yet to record a victory in the all-time history, as South Carolina holds an 8-0-0 advantage. All eight contests have been played at South Carolina, with Mercer falling just short in the latest installation last season losing by a final of 2-1.
DEFENSIVELY DOMINANT
The Bears put on a clinic in Friday's opener against Georgia State, posting a clean sheet in the 1-0 win. Not only did the Orange and White keep the ball out of the back of the net, but it also limited the Panthers' scoring opportunities, allowing just five total shots over the 90 minutes.
FACTS & FIGURES
The Gamecocks enter Tuesday's matchup with a 0-1-0 record after losing the opener against No. 3 Clemson by a score of 2-1. South Carolina finished last season with a mark of 11-8-2, including an impressive home record of 8-0-2. The Gamecocks fell to UC Santa Barbara in a 1-0 overtime defeat in the 2015 NCAA Tournament after defeating Furman in the first round on penalty kicks.
The South Carolina attack is led by senior midfielder Danny Deakin, who scored a team-high 11 goals during the 2015 campaign and added two assists to total 24 points. Another goal-scoring threat is senior forward Kevin Walker, who found the back of the net five times last season and wasted little time getting off the mark in 2016 with a goal in the opener.
