Mercer Returns Home for Family Weekend, Tennessee Tech
9/15/2016 5:05:00 PM | Football
MACON, Ga. – Redemption and a statement to be made. That is the opportunity that awaits Mercer on Saturday when the Bears host Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m. at Five Star Stadium.
For Mercer (0-2) it is a chance at redemption from two impressive performances over the last two weeks that left the Bears just short of their first win of the season. It is also a chance at redemption from a win that slipped away last year when Mercer fell at Tennessee Tech (1-1).
It's Family Weekend in Macon this week with plenty of great tailgating prior to the game. The Letterman's Club will be recognized during the game as will the women's basketball team for winning the Southern Conference regular season last year.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer and Tennessee Tech have only met once before with the Golden Eagles claiming the 29-22 decision last season in Cookeville, Tennessee.
LAST TIME OUT
Mercer posted a 7-0 lead but was unable to withstand a fast triple-option offense at Georgia Tech in the Bears' first game against a Power 5 opponent since reinstituting the program in 2013.
LAMB NO STRANGER
Last week head coach Bobby Lamb was no stranger to Mercer's opponent, having faced Georgia Tech multiple times throughout his playing and coaching career. This week, it's a different Lamb that is no stranger to the team facing the Bears.
Â
Passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tre Lamb is a former Tennessee Tech quarterback, assistant coach and TTU alumnus. Tre passed for 5,301 yards and 54 touchdowns over his collegiate career and was twice named the team's most valuable offensive player. He currently ranks third on Tennessee Tech's all-time list for both passing yards and total offense. Tre also led TTU to a 2011 Ohio Valley Conference championship, the first title for TTU in 36 years.
AND NOW, SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
Over the first two weeks of the season Mercer faced similar, if not unique, styles of offense when playing The Citadel and Georgia Tech. Both of those teams ran an effective triple option offense against Mercer. This week, however, will be something quite different.
Tennessee Tech enters with a prolific passing offense that ranks 26th in the nation with an average of 246.0 yards per game.
