LEXINGTON, Va. – The Mercer Bears' women's soccer squad dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the VMI Keydets Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.

In the 5th minute VMI earned its first look of the match, but freshman goalkeeper Jordyn Ebert was there to deny the Keydets.
In the 11th minute, VMI got on the scoreboard first via an unfortunate on-goal by the Bears off of a free kick.
The Bears continued to push for a first half goal taking another five shots over the remainder of the first half but could not find the back of the net. Mercer entered the halftime break trailing 1-0, even though the Bears outshot the Keydets 10-6 in the first stanza.
In the 48th minute, Ebert earned her third save of the day, stopping Horney's header from going in. Ally Fordham recorded the Bears' first shot of the second half in the 54th minute but headed the ball just wide of the target.

The Bears were unable to capitalize on their shot attempts in the final minutes of the match, falling 1-0 to VMI.
NOTABLES
• Goalkeeper Jordyn Ebert earned four saves on the day, playing all 90 minutes protecting the net.
• In addition to Ebert, defender Megan Delmonico played the entire match. Brie Pavol, Valeria Bermeo and Haley McDuffee each played nearly the entire game, recording 84 minutes a piece.
• Jasmine Spence provided an extra spark off the bench for the Bears, playing 50 minutes, tallying three shots.
• Two Bears were given yellow cards during the match: Alina McCue and Megan Delmonico.
• The Bears outshot the Keydets in both halves.
QUOTABLES
"Obviously this is not way the way we wanted to end regular season. We came out with a lot of heart and desire and created many chances. Unfortunately we couldn't score which has been our Achilles heel all season. We left game up to own goal and that was difference in the match. A great thing about the Southern Conference is every team gets in to the tournament. So we look forward to our match Wednesday with The Citadel." -- Head Coach Tony Economopoulos
RECORDS UPDATE
• Mercer: 9-9-1 (3-5-1)
• VMI: 7-10-1 (4-4-1)
