Bears Earn Clean Sheet in Double-Overtime Draw at #25 Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mercer Men's Soccer (4-4-3, 2-0-1) earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw with the No. 25 Furman Paladins (7-3-1, 1-1-1) on Tuesday night in Greenville, S.C. With the draw, the Bears remain undefeated in SoCon action through three games.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Neither team broke away from each other, remaining neck-and-neck for the entirety of the contest. Furman outshot Mercer 9-8, including 4-3 in shots on goal. However, the Bears recorded four saves compared to three for the Paladins.

MAN OF THE MATCH
Jeremy Booth earned the man of the match honors after turning in a stellar performance in goal for Mercer. Booth turned away three shots, including two fingertip saves to preserve his first clean sheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening half, despite both Jake Mezei and Conner Antley placing beautiful headers on frame that were stoned by Ben Hale.

Both squads tallied four shots apiece in the second half but neither team could bury the game-winning goal. The Paladins placed one shot on net that was turned away by Booth to preserve the clean sheet in regulation.

Overtime was not short of drama as both squads duked it out in the final 20 minutes of play, walking away with a well-deserved 0-0 draw. Each team recorded one shot in the overtime periods as the Bears were the lone team to put one on frame.
