Mercer Falls to Chattanooga in SoCon Play
Â
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Mercer came up short in its Southern Conference battle at Chattanooga, falling to the Mocs 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 18-25) on Saturday afternoon.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (23-25) |Â Chattanooga got a quick jump on the Bears, scoring the first two points of the match Saturday. The Mocs would extend its lead to five points, 10-5, with a 6-3 run. A four-point rally by Mercer later in the set tied it, 16-16. Kills by Danielle Faust and Paige Alsten would pull Mercer within one point, but the Mocs claimed the first-set victory.
Set 2 (14-25) | An early seven-point deficit proved difficult for Mercer to climb out of in set two. A four-point run highlighted by kills from Faust (2) and Maria Avramova (1) cut the Mocs' lead to 17-12, but an 8-1 run to close out the set put Chattanooga ahead, 2-0.
Set 3 (18-25) | Mercer took an early lead off a kill by Faust, however, the Mocs would control the lead for the majority of the third and final set. Kills by Morgan MacGilvary and Claire Waliczek led to a 3-0 run, but the Mocs sealed the match with a seven-point win.
