Men’s Soccer to take on Chanticleers in NCAA Opening Round

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Men's Soccer travels to Conway, S.C. tomorrow for a 7 p.m. showdown against the 2017 Sun Belt Champions, Coastal Carolina. The Bears, 2017 Southern Conference Champions, will square off with the Chanticleers at CCU Soccer Stadium in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
Mercer is winless against Coastal Carolina in the all-time series as the Chanticleers have claimed seven victories against the Bears. The two squads last met on Sept. 11, 2005 with Coastal Carolina walking away with a 5-3 victory in Greenville, S.C.

ENTRY FEE
There is a small entry fee into the facility for the NCAA Tournament match. Adults wishing to attend will need to pay $7, while student and children's tickets will be $5.

NOTABLES

Mercer claimed its second consecutive SoCon title on Sunday, defeating UNCG in penalty kicks (3-2) after the two squads drew even at 1-1 through 110 minutes of action.
The Bears are competing in their fourth NCAA Tournament in program history, including second in-a-row in the Palmetto State.
Mercer holds a record of 19-16-6 under the guidance of Head Coach Brad Ruzzo against opponents from South Carolina, including a 3-2-2 mark this season.
Mercer is 0-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has yet to register one goal through the three matches.
The Bears have competed in a SoCon-leading and NCAA-leading 13 overtime games, holding a 1-6-6 record in extended play.
Will Bagrou leads the team and conference with 12 goals and 27 points, while Leo Toledo Jr. paces the squad and ranks second in the conference in assists with six.
Jeremy Booth garnered the 2017 SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award after notching six penalty kick saves in the semifinals and finals combined.

Coastal Carolina earned the Sun Belt's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating Georgia State in the championship, 2-0. The Chanticleers hold an impressive 7-2-1 record in games played in Conway, S.C., falling only to VCU and UNC-Wilmington. Coastal Carolina has not lost a match since falling to the Seahawks, 3-1, on Oct. 3. Frantzdy Pierrot leads the team in goals (8), assists (3) and in points (19). Braulio Linares-Ortiz has seen the bulk of the action in goal, holding an 11-5-1 record with a goals-against-average of 1.09. Coastal Carolina is averaging 1.79 goals per game, yielding just 1.16 to opponents.
