MACON, Ga. – The Bears hosted Alabama State and Savannah State on Sunday afternoon and the Mercer women's tennis team swept both to improve to 3-2 on the season.

In the first match, Mercer started strong by winning the doubles point with wins at flights one and two. Katie Sidor won 6-0, 6-0 at flight three to put Mercer up 2-0. Marie Mottet won 6-2, 6-2 at flight four, followed by Katia Stavroulaki at flight one, 6-1, 6-3, to clinch the match, 4-0, for the Bears.

At the time the first match was called, Grace Korta was about to start a third set at flight two, Haley Powell was up 4-0 in her first set at flight five and Anna Sovic had not begun play at flight six.

In the second match, Mercer took the doubles point with wins at all three flights, which included a win by default at flight three. Mercer immediately took a 2-0 lead due to the win by default at flight six in singles.

Katie Sidor won 6-0, 6-0 and Grace Korta clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight two. Christie Cesarini won at flight five, 6-0, 6-1, in her first singles match this season. Katia Stavroulaki won 6-0, 6-0 at flight one and Andrea Peteu grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win at flight four to wrap up the match.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Katia Stavroulaki won both of her doubles matches and both singles matches on the day. Additionally, her singles match clinched the win for the Bears against Alabama State.

Next up, Mercer will head to Athens to face No. 3 Georgia on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m.
