MACON, Ga. – A late surge allowed Mercer to squeeze past Army West Point, 14-13, on Sunday afternoon as the Bears rallied for their fourth straight win. The Bears four-game win streak is the longest in program history as well as the longest for Mercer at home.
Kate Leone led the Bears with five goals and seven points, tying her season highs. Three of Leone's goals came in the final 12 minutes of play as the Bears rallied from a 12-9 deficit to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Knights got off to a strong start, leading 4-2 after just 10 minutes of play. Catie Snee and Meghan Segreti each scored a goal to tie the game, 4-4, with 16:05 left in the first half. After another pair of Army goals, Mercer scored three unanswered goals to take a 7-6 lead heading into halftime. Leone scored the final goal of the half and her first of the day, giving the Bears their first lead of the game, with just 33 seconds remaining in the period.
After an Army goal to open the second half, Mercer scored a pair of goals and retook the lead, 9-7, with 21:39 left in the game. The Black Knights answered with a 5-0 run that lasted just over five minutes and put them up 12-9, with 13:30 to play. With 11:19 on the clock, Leone scored her third goal of the day and sparked a 4-0 spurt for the Bears as Mercer went up 13-12 with 6:05 left. Army tied the game for the fifth time, 13-13, with 2:39 remaining, but Leone stepped up once again and found the back of the net with 1:32 on the clock to give Mercer a 14-13 advantage. Army won the ensuing draw control but turned the ball over almost immediately and the Bears successfully stalled as time ran out.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Kate Leone tied her season highs of seven points, five goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control. She also dished out a pair of assists.
STAT OF THE GAME

NOTABLES
"This was an awesome win for our team. We talked a lot about it needing to be a team win, and that's exactly what we got today. Army West Point is a fantastic team with a great coaching staff. It was a tight game but our team never gave up and they fought to the last minute. I think it shows us that we're a team on the rise."
