Bears Fall In Overtime to Campbell, 12-11

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Lindsey Zeltwanger scored four goals and Kate Leone added three as the duo led Mercer offensively, but the Bears were unable to hold off a late push from Campbell as Mercer fell in overtime, 12-11, on Friday evening.

Mercer led by four, 11-7, with eight minutes to play, but a late surge from Campbell tied the game, 11-11, and sent the teams to overtime. Campbell came away with the draw control and scored on its first possession to end the game and win, 12-11.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Zeltwanger secured her fifth hat trick of the season in the first 20 minutes of play as Mercer led 4-2. Leone and Catie Snee both scored in the opening period as well as the Bears took a 5-4 lead into halftime.

Mercer came out hot to start the second half and scored three unanswered goals in the first seven minutes to stretch its lead to 8-4. Campbell slowed the Bears down with a pair of goals of their own, but Mercer answered with a 3-1 run to once again lead by four, 11-7, with 8:19 to play. The Camels' rally started with a goal from Sarah Paul with 6:11 on the clock as Campbell scored four consecutive goals to tie the game, 11-11, and send it to overtime. After coming away with the draw control at the start of overtime, Campbell scored its fifth straight goal to win, 12-11.
