Mercer Defeated Twice at UNCW Beach Bash

The Bears suffer two tough losses to UNCW, South Carolina
WILMINGTON, N.C. – Mercer had its four-match win streak snapped by a pair of nonconference losses to UNCW and No. 11 (AVCA) South Carolina Saturday afternoon at the UNCW Beach Bash.
The Bears (10-7, 3-0 ASUN) were defeated 4-1 and 5-0, respectively, by UNCW and South Carolina as they wrapped up their nonconference slate. UNCW and South Carolina improved to 9-4 and 12-5 overall.
Tori Penrod/Emily Krogman picked up Mercer's lone set win of the day against UNCW's No. 1 seed with a straight-sets win. Mercer's No. 2-4 seeds all fell in hard-fought three-set matches to the host Seahawks.
Mercer is 0-2 against both UNCW and South Carolina this season. The Bears have seven matches – all ASUN Conference contests – remaining in the 2017 regular season over the next two weekends of play.
