JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Bears were edged by the Buccaneers on Saturday as the Mercer women's tennis team fell 4-3 to ETSU.

The Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the match after winning at doubles flights one and three. ETSU also won the first singles match to go up 2-0, but Andrea Peteu put Mercer on the board with her 6-4, 6-2 win at flight six.

A win at flight three stretched the Bucs' lead to 3-1, but Haley Powell kept the Bears in the match with a 7-6, 6-1 win at flight five. Katia Stavroulaki knotted the score, 3-3, after defeating No. 112 Ioanna Markesini, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, at flight one.

Marie Mottet forced a third set at flight four but ultimately fell in the deciding match as ETSU squeaked past Mercer, 4-3.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Haley Powell was 2-0 on the day for the Bears, winning 6-1 with Katie Sidor in doubles and 7-6, 6-1 at flight five in singles.

"This is a frustrating loss. We were right there and simply did not finish. The doubles point was key in this match. I hope we get to see them again at the SoCon Tournament."

Mercer is back at home on Saturday, April 8 to host Chattanooga at 2 p.m.
