Bears Looking To Bounce Back Against Hatters

MACON, Ga. – After dropping its first ASUN game of the season, Mercer is looking to get back to its winning ways on Saturday when the Bears take on Stetson at 12 p.m. in DeLand, Florida.Â

OUTSTANDING OFFENSE
Mercer, which has won five games by 10+ goals this season, leads the nation with 25.38 points per game, while leading the ASUN and ranking third nationally with 16.46 goals per game. The Bears are also leading the conference with a 7.31 scoring margin, which ranks fifth nationally. Mercer also leads the ASUN and ranks 10th nationally with a 47.9 shot percentage.

Mercer scored a program-record 26 goals in last week's win over Delaware State and the 25-goal margin of victory was also a program best.

ZELTWANGER AND LEONE LEADING THE WAY
With 40 goals and 39 assists, Lindsey Zeltwanger is leading the ASUN in points (79) and assists. Kate Leone has scored a league-leading 43 goals, while Zeltwanger is second in the ASUN in total goals. Leone also ranks second in the league in total points (61) and points per game (4.69).

Zeltwanger also ranks second nationally in total points and points per game (6.08), while ranking third in total assists and assists per game (3.00). The junior is just 21 points away from becoming the ASUN's first-ever player to score 100 points in a single season.

SHARING IS CARING
The Bears are leading the league and rank second in the nation with 8.92 assists per game, which was bolstered by the program-record 16 assists against Howard last week. Zeltwanger leads Mercer with 39 assists, followed by Meghan Segreti and Kate Leone with 18 apiece.

DOMINATING THE DRAW CIRCLE
The Bears have led in the draw circle in eight of their 13 games, leading to an average of 14.77 draw controls per game. Mercer currently ranks second in the league and 12th nationally in draws per game. Against Howard, Mercer grabbed a program-record 24 draw controls.

Meghan Segreti is second in the ASUN with 4.46 draw controls per game. Her 58 draw controls this season ranks first on Mercer's single-season leaderboard as the junior holds the top three spots on the list. Segreti, who is also Mercer's career leader in draw controls, is 34 draw controls away from the 200th of her career.

GROUND BALLS APLENTY
After Thursday's game at Jacksonville, Mercer leads the nation with 26.54 ground balls per game. Haleigh Wurzel, who leads Mercer with 38 ground balls this season, ranks fifth in the ASUN and 40th nationally with 2.92 ground balls per game.

WURZEL SAVING THE DAY
Haleigh Wurzel has spent a majority of time in goal this season for Mercer and ranks fourth in the league with a .464 save percentage. The junior also ranks second in the ASUN with an 9.62 goals-against average. Wurzel totals 98 saves and 113 goals allowed this season.

STRONG START
Mercer started its third season off with a bang, cruising past Presbyterian 23-13 on Feb. 11. This is the second season in which Mercer has won the first game of the year, as the Bears also opened the 2015 campaign with a win. Mercer has also started strong in ASUN play, notching a 5-1 mark thus far.

SCOUTING STETSON
After starting the season at 0-8, Stetson has won its last five games to improve to 5-8 overall and 5-1 in ASUN play. The Hatters are tied with Mercer for second in the league standings.

Lindsay Summers leads Stetson with 41 points off 17 goals and a team-high 24 assists. Sam Maguire has scored a team-leading 36 goals and added thee assists to total 39 points. Maguire ranks fourth in the ASUN in total goals and goals per game (2.69).

Maddie Holvey has grabbed a 33 draw controls for the Hatters, followed by Taylor Patrizi with 24. Liza Diamond has scooped up a team-leading 59 ground balls, but Julia Lozano leads the field players with 21 ground balls. Lozano has also tallied a team-high 16 caused turnovers.

Diamond has played every minute in goal for Stetson this season and has made 101 saves and allowed 189 goals for a .348 save percentage and 14.50 GAA. Diamond ranks third in the league in total saves and seventh in save percentage.
