
Strong Second Round Highlights First Day of SoCon Championship Action for Mercer

PINEHURST, N.C. – Mercer improved its team score by 12 strokes between rounds of a challenging day of play at the 2017 Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at Pinehurst No. 9. The day, originally set for 18 holes, was changed to 36-hole in an effort to avoid inclement weather.
The field played through intermittent rain and temperatures in the high 50s Sunday as senior Justin Connelly led the Bears with a 10-over-par score through two rounds, just 10 strokes behind the leader and six strokes behind a top-five finish in a tight individual race.

MERCER ON THE TEAM LEADERBOARD
The Bears finished the day at 46-over-par 622 and in eighth place, just two strokes behind Samford (+44). Furman is in sixth place at 36-over-par. ETSU leads the team scoring at 16-over-par while Chattanooga and UNCG are tied for second at 22-over-par.
MERCER ON THE INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Justin Connelly leads the Bears on the individual leaderboard at 10-over-par and is within 10 strokes of the leader, ETSU's Geuntae Kim whose hole-in-one on the day helped buoy his even-par round. Stanton Schorr, Brennan Bogdanovich and Hayes Rule are all tied for 29th at 13-over-par.
FINAL ROUND PAIRINGS
The final round, weather permitting, will tee off starting at 9 a.m. on Monday morning with tee times set at nine minute intervals. The Bears will tee off Hole No. 1 and will be paired with Samford in the final round.
