Bears Wrap Up Season With Win Over VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. – Mercer concluded the 2017 season with an 11-8 win over VMI on Saturday afternoon. Chris Rahill led Mercer with five points off a career-high-tying three goals and two assists.
The Bears finished the year with a 5-8 record and a 2-5 mark in Southern Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears took a 2-0 lead off goals from Matt Quinn and Jack Nelson in the first five minutes. VMI added a goal, but the Bears answered to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first half. Mercer started the second half with another two goals, stretching the Bears lead to 5-1 early in the period. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of the half as Mercer held on to a 7-3 advantage.
VMI scored the first goal of the second half, but Mercer once again added back-to-back goals to go up 9-4. After another two goals from the Keydets, the Bears scored the final goals of the period to take an 11-6 lead into the fourth quarter. VMI scored the only two goals of the game and Mercer held on for an 11-8 win.
