Sass joins the Bears after three seasons at Lock Haven University
MACON, Ga. – Mercer head coach Damian Elder announced the addition of former Lock Haven University transfer Olivia Sass to the volleyball program Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Sass, who has two years of athletic eligibility remaining, comes to Mercer after spending three years at NCAA Division II Lock Haven (Lock Haven, Pennsylvania). She redshirted during her true freshman season in 2014 before seeing playing time as a redshirt freshman and sophomore.
Â
"Olivia will bring a level of college experience to our already experienced and veteran-led team," Elder said. "She is capable of filling several roles for us, having played more than one position in her career. As well, her maturity and engaging demeanor will complement the pieces we have in place here."
Â
A 5-foot-10 native of Atlanta, Georgia, Sass earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) All-Academic honors three consecutive years and starred as a team captain for Lock Haven last season. She notched a team-high 543 of her 637 career assists and led the Bald Eagles with 21 service aces during her redshirt sophomore campaign. She totaled a career-best 57 assists against Slippery Rock in PSAC play on September 24, 2016.
Â
Sass will fill roles as a setter and right-side hitter for Mercer. Academically, Sass will seek to complete her 3/2 Physics and Environmental Engineering program.
