Men’s Tennis Falls to Georgia State in Opening Day of FSU Invitational

RESULTS

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –The Mercer men's tennis team was defeated by Georgia State 4-0 at the Florida State Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The afternoon began with singles competition. The Bears' No. 6 seeded Ruben Vanoppen was topped by Kevin Huynh, 6-1, 6-1. Mercer's No. 2 Olivier Stuart then fell to the Panthers' Quentin Coulaud, 6-1, 6-3. On court No. 5, Fernando Guardia was defeated by Giles Hussey, 6-4, 6-3. Georgia State clinched the match when the Bears' No. 4 slotted Stathis Tsiranidis lost to Sebastian Acuna, 6-1, 7-5.

Doubles competition was not played as Georgia State had already clinched the match.

Mercer will next face Louisiana Sunday, Jan. 14, beginning at 10 a.m. The Rajin' Cajuns were swept by the host school, No. 21 ranked Florida State Saturday morning. The winner of the match will advance to the fifth place game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
