Basketball Tip-Off Event Big Success Sunday Afternoon
10/28/2018 4:37:00 PM | Men's Basketball
MACON, Ga. - Mercer fans turned out in large numbers Sunday to participate in the men's annual Basketball Tip-Off Event and Orange & White Game. Hawkins Arena was the site of the festivities sponsored by Five Star Automotive and Smith, Brown and Groover, Inc.
The fan-friendly event featured the 2018-19 edition of the men's team along with Head Coach Bob Hoffman and the Bear coaching staff. The team and coaches engaged with the fans, participated in games, tossed out T-shirts, distributed raffle prizes, and held a "garage sale" in which game-worn jerseys along with other Bear memorabilia were auctioned off. Lunch was also served for those in attendance.
The team competed in a 20-minute Orange & White scrimmage. There was also a three-point shooting contest, won by junior guard Ross Cummings, and a dunk contest, won by sophomore guard Marcus Cohen.
"A big thank you to all of the fans who came out today for our Tip-Off Event and Orange and White Game," said Coach Hoffman. "It was great to see such a large and enthusiastic turnout and I know our players and coaches appreciate it. Additionally, a special thank you to all of our great sponsors who provide us with such outstanding support to help put on events like we had today."
Mercer opens its 2018-19 season Tuesday, Nov. 6 on the road at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (8 p.m. ET). The Bears' home opener is Friday, Nov. 9 against Piedmont College. Tipoff at Hawkins Arena is 7 p.m. (ET).
