Mercer Set for SoCon Opener on Saturday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Men's Soccer team will jump start league play on Saturday with a Southern Conference showdown against VMI at 1 p.m. at Patchin Field in Lexington, Va. The Bears (6-2-2) enter the match on a two-game winning streak, while VMI (1-8-1) picked up its first win since Sept. 5, 2014.

SERIES HISTORY | LAST MEETING
The Bears are a perfect 11-0 all-time against the Keydets, claiming the first meeting in 2010 (2-1) and not looking back. Mercer upended VMI twice last season, outscoring the conference foe 11-1 on the season. The Bears poured on seven goals in Lexington a season ago to conclude the regular season, led by two strikes from Conner Antley.

The Keydets most recently defeated NCCAA opponent Regent University on Tuesday by the final score of 4-1. VMI has scored seven goals this season, while yielding 31 on the defensive end. Justin Riescher leads the squad in goals scored with four, netting all four goals on Tuesday against Regent.
