MACON, Ga. – Sophie Peel has been named to the 2018 Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Beach Volleyball Team by the league's head coaches, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Peel was one of five unanimous selections to this year's 10-person preseason all-conference team. Florida Gulf Coast led the way with four selections, while Stetson garnered two honorees and North Florida with two.
Â
Peel set a career-best in wins last season with 13 for the Bears, falling just short of a program record. The senior went 13-11 overall while going 6-4 in the conference season with her main doubles partner and sister, Emma Peel. The Portland, Ore. native is a former ASUN Freshman of the Year, winning in 2015. Peel was also selected to the 2017 ASUN All-Academic team for her performance on and off the court.
Â
Mercer will host its first match of the season against Huntingdon College at 1 p.m., Saturday at Bear Beach. The Bears will then travel to Deland, Fla., March 9-10, to compete in the Stetson Tournament against Tampa, Texas A&M- Kingsville, Eckerd College, and Florida Southern.
