Mercer Dominates Presbyterian, Wins Third Straight

MACON, Ga. – Kate Leone and Caitlin Smith recorded four goals apiece as Mercer won its third straight game with a 21-7 victory over Presbyterian at Five Star Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Smith set the tone for the game, scoring her first goal of the afternoon just 30 seconds into the contest. Presbyterian would knot the game, 1-1, but Mercer (3-3) would score five of the next six goals as Smith, Kate Leone, Lily Morin and Lindsey Zeltwanger found the back of the net. Three consecutive goals by the Blue Hose would tighten Mercer's lead, but Sami Van Slyke's goal with three minutes and 23 seconds remaining in the half sparked a four-goal run. Mercer led 10-5 at the intermission.

It was all Orange and Black in the second half as Mercer outscored Presbyterian 11-2 and pulled away. The Bears would tag on a seven-goal run that included goals by Cailey Thornburg and Gabby Goldberg. Â

Caitlin Smith recorded a career-high four goals off five shots in the 21-7 win. Smith is one of the Bears' top shooters this season, averaging a .538 shot percentage.
