
Bears Tame Terriers, 5-2, Sunday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears' men's tennis squad remained unscathed in Southern Conference play with a 5-2 victory over Wofford Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.

Mercer rallied back after Wofford took the first doubles match, to claim the doubles point and early lead. The Terriers took court No. 3 with Omar Williams and Javi Casasolas' 6-2 defeat of Carver Arant and Sachin Khurana. Mercer tied the doubles competition up with No. 2 Ruben Vanoppen and Nicolas Guillon topping Jack Thomas and Lucas Cerbelli, 6-3. The Bears' No. 1 pairing of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 triumph over Julian Chousa and John Crawford.

Mercer's No. 1 seeded Philp extended the Bears' lead with his 6-2, 6-1, dominance over Cerbelli. Wofford picked up a point with No. 4 Parks Schoen's 6-4, 6-1, win over Guardia. Mercer's No. 6 Vanoppen returned to singles action with a straight set, 6-1, 7-6, success over Williams. No. 2 Stuart clinched the match for the Bears downing Chousa, 6-4, 6-2. On court No. 5, Arant overcame seven match points to take a 2-6, 7-6, 13-11, decision over Kyle Barr. With Mercer up 5-1, the Terriers salvaged the final singles point with No. 3 Edu Villar defeating Guillon, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5.
