Mercer to Face Winthrop Sunday at Five Star Stadium

MACON, Ga. – Mercer (3-4) will end its three-game home stretch by hosting Winthrop on Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at Five Star Stadium. The Bears are 1-2 at home, as they recently fell to Louisville in nonconference action, 21-14, on March 14.

The game will broadcast live via SoCon Digital Network.

SERIES HISTORY
Mercer lines up against Winthrop for the first time in program history. The Bears are 8-7 against Big South opponents, having competed against Campbell (0-3), Gardner-Webb (4-0), Longwood (0-2), Presbyterian (3-1), Radford (1-0) and Liberty (0-1).

NOTABLES

Mercer ranks first in the SoCon in goals per game (12.86), assists (6.43), ground balls (21.43), points (19.29), draw controls (14.29), shots per game (29.86) and caused turnovers (9.29).
Kate Leone is tied for first in the SoCon, averaging 3.14 goals per game and 6.14 shots per game. She owns 22 goals for season. Leone is 38th nationally in shots on goal per game and 41st in goals per game.
Lindsey Zeltwanger ranks seventh nationally and first in the conference in assists per game (2.57). Her 18 assists rank 15th nationally. Zeltwanger also leads the SoCon in free position goals, totaling five for the season.
Caitlin Smith ranks 25th nationally in shot percentage (.591) and leads the SoCon in game winning goals (2).

SCOUTING WINTHROP
Winthrop (6-3) cruised past SoCon foe Wofford on Thursday, winning 20-7. The Eagles fell earlier this season at Davidson, 10-5, while the Bears beat the Wildcats 13-12 on March 4. Winthrop defeated Coastal Carolina 16-14 (March 13), who are also scheduled to play the Bears later on in the season (April 15).

Nicole Beatson leads the Eagles in goals (40) and points (52), averaging a .699 shots on goal percentage. Katherine Judge leads the team in the circle, totaling 63 draw controls for the season and leads with 12 caused turnovers and 28 groundballs. Alaina Girani defends the pipes, logging 84 saves for the season and averaging a .455 save percentage.
