Bears Unable to Hold Off Furman’s Late Rally, Falling 7-6 Saturday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team dropped their Southern Conference matchup with Furman, 7-6, Saturday afternoon at Five Star Stadium.
How It Happened
Mercer jumped to an early 1-0 lead as Mikey Ewing found the back of the net in the 6th minute of play, assisted by Matt Quinn. Bryan Gibson added another less than a minute later, with Scott Baird recording the assist. Furman would score one of their own before Michael Quinn scored an unassisted goal with 2:40 remaining in the first period. The Bears took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Furman's Zach Scott scored with 10:26 remaining in the second to make it a 3-2 game. Baird earned his second assist on the day as he found Gibson yet again to give the Bears a 4-2 lead with 4:57 in the second period. Matt Quinn scored his second goal of the day to stretch Mercer's lead to 5-2 as they entered the halftime break.
The Paladins' David Williamson scored two goals in the final minutes of the third period to cut into Mercer's advantage. With 1:31 remaining in the third, Josh Tarver found Patrick Marks, giving the Bears a 6-4 lead.
Furman would score three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to jump to their first lead of the game. Mercer was unable to rally late, falling 7-6.
With the loss, Mercer falls to 3-7, while Furman improves to 3-6.
