Mercer Withstands Davidson in 13-12 Victory

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Mercer withstood a late scoring barrage to defeat Davidson, 13-12, on the road at Richardson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears (2-3) won their second straight game after defeating Gardner-Webb, 16-6, on Friday.

How It Happened
Mercer held a four-goal advantage (6-2) with more than 16 minutes remaining in the first half after Kate Leone sparked a hot start. The senior scored four of Mercer's first five goals en route to a five-goal individual performance.

Davidson (2-2) tightened the gap to one goal with a three-goal rally over a three-minute period, but the Bears took an 8-6 lead into halftime after Erica Coyne and Kelly Hagerty found the net.

Following the intermission, Mercer cranked it up offensively and defensively to extend its lead to six goals (12-6) by the 16-minute mark. The Bears held Davidson scoreless until 14:28 remained while goals by Meghan Segreti (2), Leone and Lindsey Zeltwanger gave Mercer a comfortable advantage. Davidson went on to score six of the game's final seven goals, but Mercer hung on for its second win of the season.Â

Player of the Game
Kate Leone continued her recent hot streak, scoring five goals on seven shots to lead Mercer offensively. The senior attacker leads Mercer with 15 goals scored this season, 10 of which have been scored in the last two games.

» Iseabal Cryne logged all 60 minutes in goal and earned the win while logging eight saves.
» Zeltwanger notched a game-high six assists to lead Mercer with seven points.
» Six Bears found the back of the net, three of which had multiple goals (Leone, Hagerty, Segreti).
» Mercer was outstanding on clears, going 18-for-20.
» The Bears outgained Davidson in groundballs, 24-20.
