Bears' Second-Half Rally Falls Short to Old Dominion

MACON, Ga. – Mercer was unable to rally past Old Dominion on Friday evening at Five Star Stadium, after falling into an early four-goal deficit.
The Bears fall to 5-8 overall following the nonconference loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer opened Friday's game with a goal within the first five minutes. Old Dominion scored back-to-back goals to take the lead by one with 24:22 remaining in the first half. Erica Coyne and Lily Morin scored one goal apiece to jump back on top with 18:58 left in the opening stanza. However, a Monarch 4-1 run would end the first half with Old Dominion leading 6-4.

The Monarchs started the second half by scoring two consecutive goals, doubling their lead to four. The Bears surged back into the game with a 5-1 run ending with Caitlin Smith tying the game at nine with just under 17 minutes left in regulation. Both squads traded the next four goals to stay even at 11 apiece with 5:55 remaining in the game. With just under two minutes remaining, the Monarchs found the back of the net for the game-winning goal as Glory Johnson scored with 1:50 left in the game.
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Erica Coyne recorded a game-high three goals, notching a hat trick for the evening. Coyne also added one assist and two draw controls. Â

Mercer hosts Coastal Carolina in the continuation of nonconference play. The Bears will face the Chanticleers Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.

- Mercer won 18-7 in the draw circle, with Meghan Segreti, Michaela Lucas and Audrey Robertson notching five each. Â
- Iseabal Cryne earned a career-high 11 saves, three more than the Monarchs.
- Robertson also added a game-high four caused turnovers, one goal and two groundballs.
- There were 15 Bears that contributed in the scoring including Kelly Hagerty, Audrey Robertson, Sami Van Slyke, Jo Imbriani, Amya Hudson, Catie Snee, Katie Ryan, Cailey Thornburg and Gabby Goldberg who all notched one goal each.
