Bears Top Mocs 4-0 in Opening Round of SoCon Tournament

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Mercer Bears' men's tennis team rolled past the No. 7 Chattanooga Mocs, 4-0, in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament, Friday afternoon at the Champions Club.

The Bears quickly gained momentum in doubles play and never let off the gas. On court No. 1, Mercer's top duo of Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart bested Jacob Marshall and Simon Bustamante, 6-1. Mercer's No. 3 pairing of Carver Arant and Fernando Guardia topped Paul LaHue and Cooper Long, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point.

Mercer continued to apply pressure as No. 5 Ruben Vanoppen had a near perfect performance in his 6-1, 6-0, defeat over Long. Court No. 6 saw Arant down LaHue in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Mercer's No. 3 slotted Stuart took a 6-2, 6-4, contest over Bustamante to clinch the match for the Bears.
