Men’s Lacrosse Team Earns All-Southern Conference Accolades

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's men's lacrosse team had five of its student-athletes earn 2018 All-Southern Conference honors as announced by the league office this afternoon.

A trio of seniors – Matt Quinn, Willy Deines, and Patrick deHueck – joined sophomore Michael O'Brien on the All-SoCon second team. First-year player Matt Hughes was chosen to the league's All-Freshman squad.

Quinn, a midfielder from Stevensville, Md., started all 14 games for the Bears. He recorded 19 goals (third best on the team) and had 12 assists for a total of 31 points, which ranked second on the club. He had 38 shots on goal, which was second best on the team, and scooped up 18 ground balls. Deines, a defender from Parker, Colo., started all 14 contests, came up with 14 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.

deHueck, a midfielder from Burlington, Ontario, appeared in all 14 games. He scored one goal, had one assist, was credited with 21 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers, which was third best on the squad. O'Brien, a defender from Charlotte, N.C., played in all 14 games, scooping up 33 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers, both of which ranked second best on the Bears' team. He also tallied two assists.

Hughes is a defender from Reston, Va. As a freshman, he played in all 14 games, tallying four goals and two assists for a total of six points. He also caused a team-leading 31 turnovers and scooped up 29 ground balls, third best on the squad.
