MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins in the 2026 regular season finale at Five Star Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Senior Day.

Senior attackman Michael Frederick led the Bears offense with a hat trick on the day. The remaining goals were scored by Will Zylstra, Kade McNeil and for the first time in their careers, Jack Guido and Greg Canning. Senior Christopher Cappelmann went 12-22 at the face off x and picked up seven ground balls while junior defenseman Thomas Venzie scooped up two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Jacob Neuman and Jack Guido split time between the pipes combining for eight saves on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jacksonville set the tone for the game with two goals scored within the first five minutes of play but the Bears responded with two of their own from Zylstra and Frederick with 9:19 and 8:36 on the clock, respectively, in the first quarter.
The Dolphins score four straight goals until Frederick answered with his second goal of the day at the 6:01 mark in the second quarter. Jacksonville found the back of the net four more times before the buzzer sounded for halftime.
Jacksonville still came out firing with a few goals in the third quarter and their defense backed them up, holding Mercer scoreless.
The Bears were finally able to get some offense going after a goal from McNeil with 11:18 left to play. Jacksonville extended their lead to give themselves more cushion but Canning and Guido were able to make a statement with their first career goals before the final buzzer.

TOP BEARS

Guido and Canning scored their first career goal.
Zylstra has scored in every game this season besides one.
Frederick notched his 8th game of the season with multiple goals scored.

NOTABLES

Mercer moves to 6-7 on the season overall and 2-3 in the ASUN.
With the win over Mercer, Jacksonville clinched a share of the ASUN Regular Season Champions title.

UP NEXT

The Bears will head to Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday, May 1 to compete, once again, against Jacksonville in the semifinal round of the 2026 ASUN Championship at 3 p.m. at Rock Stadium.
