
Bears Set To Face Jacksonville In ASUN Tournament Semifinals

MACON, Ga. - For the second time in 11 years, the Mercer men's lacrosse team will compete for a chance to play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship by taking on #1 Jacksonville in the semifinal round of the tournament on Friday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at Rock Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the 18th meeting between these two squads dating back to the first match up in 2011 and have faced each other every year for the past 14 years (besides 2020). Jacksonville holds the overall record 15-2 with Mercer's most recent win nearly 10 years ago when they defeated the Dolphins 12-5 on their home turf. The most recent meeting saw Jacksonville take a 17-7 win over Mercer last weekend at Five Star Stadium in the final regular season game of the season and Senior Day for the Bears.

Senior attackman Michael Frederick led the Bears offense with a hat trick on the day. The remaining goals were scored by Will Zylstra, Kade McNeil and for the first time in their careers, Jack Guido and Greg Canning. Senior Christopher Cappelmann went 12-22 at the face off x and picked up seven ground balls while junior defenseman Thomas Venzie scooped up two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Jacob Neuman and Jack Guido split time between the pipes combining for eight saves on the afternoon.

The Dolphins are led by John Galloway who enters his tenth season at the helm for Jacksonville. The Dolphins finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 9-5 and went 4-1 in the ASUN, falling to Air Force 15-12 in the semi-final round of the 2025 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship.
The Dolphins currently sit with a record of 8-5 with conference wins against Air Force (16-10), Queens (14-1) and Bellarmine (27-7) with a loss to Utah (9-8), earning the #1 spot in the tournament after a three-way tie for first place between Utah, Air Force and Jacksonville. The winner of tomorrow afternoon's game will play the winner of Utah and Air Force in the ASUN Championship on Sunday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
